My blood work shows my neutrophils are getting too low so I’m getting an injection to boost them. Neutrophils are a common type of white blood cell, they heal injuries and fight infections. Chemotherapy suppresses your immune system so it’s important to keep neutrophils at a certain level. It is produced in the bone marrow and I’ve heard the injection can cause bone pain. Fingers crossed it doesn’t.

I’ve also developed a rash all over my scalp from the immunotherapy and am on another antibiotic for that.

Emotionally, last week was tough with the rash and the exhaustion (the exhaustion is next level). I was emotional with the news of the extra injections today too. We tend to compartmentalize mental health as a separate condition but the reality is that it is part of everyday life. Going through cancer treatments is no different. There are hard days. I have a tendency to say “it could be worse” and invalidate my feelings in doing so. Yes it could be worse, but this also sucks.

One day at a time. Xo
